Notes

Hedgehog

Common Shrew

Pygmy Shrew

Water Shrew

Daubenton's Bat

The best place to watch these bats is on Goldrill Bridge on a warm summer's evening. They fly very close to the water and are larger than the Pipistrelles.

Pipistrelle Bat

Very common in the summer months but they can be seen at any time of the year if the conditions are right.

Stoat

There have been a number of sightings between Beckstones and Dubhow.

Weasel

American Mink

These 'unwelcome' animals are occasionally seen in Goldrill Beck and have been seen taking fish from a garden pond.

Badger

The Badger population seems to be increasing (as does the damage to gardens!). There are numerous setts in the valley.

Otter

Recent sightings have unfortunately been two dead animals, hit by cars on the main road near Aira Force car park.

Red Deer

There are nearly always 20 to 100 on the western side of Place Fell in the winter months. Bannerdale is the place to see them in Summer.

Roe Deer

More common in the valley bottom. Often a couple between Brotherswater and the camp site.
