New Fell Top Assessor

The team assessing conditions on Helvellyn has changed, the new assessor is Jason Taylor.  In his first week Jason has seen 100 cm snow drifts, avalanche risks, wind chill temperatures plummeting to minus 16C and a summit cornice showing signs of cracking. He and colleague Jon Bennett work alternate weeks over the winter, trekking daily up the Lake District ’s third highest peak to check conditions. A seven-day shift is the equivalent of almost reaching Everest’s summit. They provide the daily reports on Weatherline used by half a million people a year. Jason is a mountain expert with his own guiding company.

He warns that just now only those with full winter equipment and a lot of experience should be venturing  out on the fells

Church Roof and Tower Appeal

We need your urgent support!  Why?  Because the Church's main roof has reached the end of its life.  We can't make do and mend any more.  It's going to cost a breathtaking £50,000 to £67,500 plus to strip it down, re-fix it and do other necessary work on the roof.  But that's not all - we've got damp in the tower and that's going to cost up to another £7,500 to put right.  The good news is that we've already raised a remarkable £55,000 in just a few months through your generosity.  But there's still a gap of up to £12,500 to bridge.  To find out more and to hear how we're going to close the gap click here Join with us and together we can preserve our lovely church for all our futures.
